Prior to CNC7 version 8.00, the ICN file version was the same as the Intercon (and usually CNC7) software version. Thus older versions of Intercon could not read ICN program files written by newer versions, even if there had not, in fact, been any changes to the format of the ICN files.
Beginning with CNC7 and Intercon version 8.00, ICN files have their own format version number. This number is only updated when there is a real change to the ICN file format, significantly improving forward compatibility. For example, Intercon in CNC10 v1.51 can read program files written by the Intercon in CNC10 v2.68, because the latter still writes v83 ICN files.
